I don’t really know what to say. ..
I’ve been staring at my screen for the longest time trying to find someway to define Hunger Games … and I find it incredibly difficult.
After reading this book, I was speechless for almost an entire day … which is actually rare for me since I have this natural tendency to talk and talk and talk. And yet … after reading Katniss’ story … I had nothing to say. All I could do was think .. and imagine. … and thank Suzanne Collins for gracing my world with the most amazing thing I have ever seen/read since the last word J.K. Rowling wrote in Deathly Hallows.
Hunger Games is not Harry Potter. Nothing will beat Harry Potter in my mind and in my heart (most likely because I have a distinct bias and because I grew up loving Harry, Hermoine, and Ron). But you know what? NOTHING has ever come close to what Harry Potter means to me … except Hunger Games. Does that explain its greatness?
Please read this book. Please. Instead of watching the stupid conclusion to Twilight, please go to Chapters and buy the first book of the Hunger Games series and read it. Then buy book 2 and 3. They’re worth it.
Doris Kearns Goodwin’s Team of Rivals was like the wikipedia for Lincoln’s ENTIRE life. It took me THREE sittings to get through this book. Although it is very readable, there is so much information that you simply MUST read and reread some key parts.
This book presents Abraham Lincoln at his best, his worst, as a hero of a nation, and as a simple human searching for somewhere to belong. An amazing story about one legendary man who led a nation through incredibly tough times.
I definitely recommend this to ALL history students and even to those who are just plain curious about America’s past.
politics, intrigue, real-life heroes, the question of slavery, democracy, civil war, what it means to be American ….. A TRUE STORY :) it’s not every day you come across a really true story, savour it.
ps. please read the book before watching the movie: Lincoln 2012
Here is a non-romance review!
Kiss the Girls by James Patterson has got to be one of the most memorable books I’ve read … simply because it’s so darn good. The story line kept me hooked and the plot is so intense, it gave me goose bumps! (Please read this book in the middle of the night while home alone!)
James Patterson creates a couple of terrifying characters, Casanova and the Gentleman Caller. I don’t want to go into too much detail and spoil the story … I’ll just say that this book is much like the best episodes of Criminal Minds put together and (if you have a great imagination) can be quite the thrilling read. If you haven’t read Patterson yet, start here and work your way through his book list. Each book is a thrill on its own!
The Third Circle was a gem! (sorry for the pun LOL *if you read it, you’ll know what I mean)
But seriously … this book was ridiculously (in a good way) fantastical and magnificent. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it the Harry Potter of Romances but definitely equivalent of the Thief Lord. It’s empowering. It’s mysterious. It’s romantic. What more could you want?
Leona is just beautiful and she has that spark that makes the reader want to be her. Thaddeus Ware … well, let’s just keep it on the cleaner level and say he’s just plain hot. This was the first book I read out of the ARCANE SOCIETY series, so I am pretty much biased in saying that it is my absolute favorite from the whole collection. Thank you Amanda Quick for bringing magic and romance together is this awesome book!
